Many people have been calling for the year 2020 to simply just end. This is understandable because 2020 has certainly been challenging for many. The world at large was hit with a global pandemic. We lost many lives in 2020. Our nation entered into a lockdown, businesses closed their doors, jobs and income were lost, anxiety and depression ran rampant. On top of it all, we experienced racial and civil unrest, riots, protest, and a presidential election like none ever seen before.
Nevertheless, despite the turmoils of 2020, many of us have been able to look back at 2020 and realize that God has been with us this whole time. Many of us have been able to clearly see that the who and what that has kept us, blessed us, comforted us, and healed us during these challenging times. Is God Himself.
I am reminded of His words to the Israelites who were in turmoil which says, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2 NLT). These words of comfort and promise are still true for us today.
God has promised to never leave or forsake us, His children. God through Jesus Christ in Mathew 28:20 has promised to be with us even until the end of the world. He has granted us access to peace despite what happens around us, joy in the midst of sorrow, hope that will never make us feel ashamed, and an abundant and fulfilled life both now and in eternity with Him. We can trust these words of promises simply because God can never lie to us. His nature and character forbid it.
As we put 2020 behind us and enter into 2021 let’s be reminded and rest assured that God’s plan for us is for our good and is never for evil. His plan is to give us hope and a future. Let’s look to 2021 feeling assured that our great and loving God and Father stands with us and goes before us. Let’s draw strength and hope from Him each day.
Happy New Year to all. From all of us at JTTCB.
